What is my earliest Memory by Marie Tuhart #MFRW

Week 2 of the 52-week blog challenge from Marketing For Romance Writers

That is a hard one. I really don’t know. The first memory that comes to mind is when I was about eight. There was some work being done on the front of the family home, so things in our living room was a mess.

At eight, I’m invincible or so I thought. My mom was on the phone, and I was jumping from the sofa to a chair, to another chair around the room. My mom got off the phone and yelled at me. She startled me and that moment of inattention, I slipped off the sofa and wham...my head goes right on the big stereo speaker. I hit the corner and split my head open.

Of course, head wounds bleed like crazy. My mom is yelling, I’m crying. I really don’t remember any pain. I do remember the drive to the hospital. My mom called my brother who luckily was just a block away at our grandmother’s house. He drove us. And I remember my mom telling him if it’s safe just run the red light, let a cop stop us then we’ll have an escort. I also remember laying in the emergency room looking at the doctor while he stitched me up. 

Well, we never got stopped by a police officer. I ended up with nine stitches and a nice scar. And I never jumped around the furniture again.

Favorite Thing I've Written, and Why - Week 1 MFRW 52 week challenge

This is always a hard one for me because I love all the books I've written.

What stands out to me is my hero in Saddle Up.

I started writing Jared the way I thought he should be written, a very controlling, hard Dom. I was 15,000 words into the story when he finally raised his head and said "That's not me."

As a writer, I just stopped and asked him "Then who are  you?"

That's when he started talking to me, and the story really began to develop. Jared was a different character than I was painting him, but that was okay because I fell in love with him as I wrote the book. He turned out to be a really loving guy in ways I didn't expect.

           “You’re driving me crazy.” He cupped her shoulders, fighting to get his desire under control, but his body had other ideas. It always did around Nicki.

          “If you’d just loosen up and relax…” She squirmed under his hold.

          “Behave yourself.” His grip tightened. “I want to know about the firing clause in your contract.”

          “I had nothing to do with it.”

          “Chris isn’t about to fire you, is he?” Jealousy and failure welled in him.

          “No,” she admitted. “Chris and I understand each other.”

          “I bet you do.” His lips strayed to her ear, remembering the stories he’d read in the tabloids. “How long did it take you to go from my bed to his?”

This book is really the book of my heart, I wrote it years ago and it has always remained my favorite.  I'm happy to be able to bring it to readers.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My past has so many twists and turns it would take a book to explain––in fact, I wrote that book and the story catapulted my writing career. Discovering my rock, the dad who raised me wasn’t my biological father spiraled my life into a tempest of secrets and lies that profoundly changed my life. Finding four sisters and a brother I never knew existed is just the tip of the tsunami. If your readers are interested, my memoir is available on Amazon. What do like the most and the least about writing?

I love the writing experience. It’s like opening a door into another world every time I open my WIP on my computer. Reality fades into the distance and my characters take me on a journey. I have an idea where the roads lead, but my hero and heroine write my stories.

The worst part of writing for me is definitely marketing. It’s a learning curve I never expected and had no interest in discovering.
